Overview
Under the moniker of GL events UK, we designed and installed the eye-catching, 12,000-seat arena. This impressive facility featured Olympic-grade tiered seating and sight-lines. Additionally, accessible viewing platforms were provided for wheelchair spectators. Our modular deck seating system was fixed to a steel under-structure, enclosing corridors, staircases and toilets.
Iconic
This adaptable solution meant the arena could be rapidly transformed to host the London 2012 Olympics handball finals and Paralympic basketball games. The striking seats were manufactured in-house, and thanks to the range of colours used, created an impressive, large-scale abstract interpretation of the 2012 Olympic Games’ logo.
Record-breaking
The basketball arena was the largest temporary venue ever constructed for an Olympic or Paralympic Games. It played hosted to basketball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair handball and the final stages of high-octane handball competition.
Hybrid solution
The arena comprised of a hybrid solution that mixed demountable and static seating. This stunning solution provided the look and feel of a permanent arena. In addition to the grandstands, we also provided the field of play and a media centre. This was a truly turnkey solution.
”We are extremely proud to have been involved in the Olympics and what we achieved at London 2012 cements both the quality of our product; and high standards of service.
