Stadia by GL events has been appointed as the Principal Contractor to undergo the Plymouth Argyle Football Club redevelopment scheme. The £7 million project takes place over a 12-month period and includes the design and build of the new changing room facilities, terrace construction and stand redevelopment.
The new grandstand will be named The Mayflower Stand and will open early in the 2019/2020 season, in good time for 2020’s Mayflower 400 celebrations.
Scott Jameson, Managing Director for GL events UK, said:
“We are delighted to be signing this contract, which cements our relationship with Plymouth Argyle to build their new grandstand. GL events have a market-leading track record of success in high-quality construction for sporting events – from permanent and temporary grandstand seating to event structures and overlay – and we look forward to the successful delivery of this project.”
The redevelopment of the Mayflower Stand includes the removal of the existing defective roof structure and replacement of a new steel frame, new lower concrete terrace and 5,000 new seats, increasing the capacity to 17,904. The works include new cladding and curtain walling, internal fit-out and finishes, new electrical and mechanical installations and a new bar and conferencing facilities.
The external façade of the redevelopment will see new cladding materials in coordination with the club’s colours, a new curtain walling entrance, new facing masonry work and a new concrete terracing facility.
On completion of the scheme, Stadia by GL events will hand over a completely reconditioned structure back to the client, with new conference and banqueting facilities, a new office block extension to the rear of the Mayflower, new and improved toilets, new concessions and kiosks, a new passenger lift, a new club shop, ticket office and supporters’ bar.
This new relationship with Plymouth has enabled Stadia by GL events to open itself up to further infrastructure work with the client and a protentional new Ice Rink construction in 2019, with an aim to redevelop the Home Park Development for the local community.
