Stadia by GL events is thrilled to be working in partnership with Arcadis and Woo Architects to deliver an impressive hospitality space at Edgbaston Stadium. The ‘Skyline Terrace’ renovation has been commissioned with a view to transforming the existing general admission seating area into a stunning high-spec fit-out, that will enhance the match day experience for guests.

Skyline – situated at the top of Edgbaston’s South Stand – will offer spectacular panoramic views of the pitch and Birmingham cityscape, whilst delivering an unrivalled hospitality offering.

As one of England’s most iconic cricketing venues, Edgbaston has played host to many legendary moments that are etched in the memory of sports fans across the world, perhaps none more so than ‘The Greatest Test‘ during the electrifying 2005 Ashes series.

Stadia by GL events’ Senior Quantity Surveyor, Tyron Harris, commented, “Having the opportunity to develop and enhance this famous theatre is a great privilege. Edgbaston has selected a premium specification for this project, and to be tasked with completing the works in time for this summers’ forthcoming Ashes series, is very exciting!”

Working in partnership with Woo Architects, long-time collaborators with Edgasbton Stadium – and the architects who devised concepts for areas at Wembley, Twickenham and the London Stadium – the works encompass a complete refurbishment and reworking of the existing skyline hospitality space, that will see the area transformed into one of the most luxurious spaces in the world to take in a cricket match.

Kevin Owens, Director at Woo Architects said, “The club has come a long way over 7 years, investing in architectural and sustainability upgrades that will see it provide a world-class experience.”

With less than four months until Edgbaston kicks off this Ashes summer, time is tight, and the schedule of works has been compressed to ensure that the project is completed ahead of the series.

Mike Mouzourides, Technical Director at Stadia by GL events remarked, “This significant renovation is being delivered on a compressed schedule and requires stringent project management and collaboration to meet the deadline. The scope of works will see Stadia by GL events transform the Skyline terrace into a stunning viewing deck, offering an unrivalled spectator experience, that will be the envy of cricket enthusiasts around the world.”

The major refurbishment involves several key deliverables that will enhance the space for patrons and guests. Stadia by GL events is working with its partners to deliver the complete package, which is comprised of a high-end hospitality and banqueting facility, complete with a commercial kitchen, reception areas, bar, luxury toilets and premium seating.

Nick Woodcock, Senior Project Manager at Arcadis commented, “These fantastic facilities will allow cricket lovers to enjoy matches in a superb setting, to meet Arcadis’ ambition of providing great quality of life. Bringing our expertise to projects such as these showcases what we do best. The Skyline enclosure will be a huge asset to this great club, and to cricket supporters in general.”

Chris Mansell, Director of Seating & Stadia, commented, “Stadia by GL events has a proud track record of delivering bespoke, turnkey solutions at venues around the world, and we are thrilled to have been entrusted to deploy our expertise to ensure the provision of a best-in-class hospitality experience for cricket fans, here at Edgbaston.”

Craig Flindall, Edgbaston’s Chief Operating Officer commented, “The development is part of our wider Masterplan to further invest in our facilities at Edgbaston and create more multi-purpose, versatile spaces. The Skyline does that by giving us the opportunity to continue expanding our conference and events capabilities to host more summer parties and outdoor events.”
